What Jesus said about gay rights is pretty simple:

"Do unto others as you would have them do to you."

And again, "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, that you do to Me."
There is little question that Jesus would have been "on our side" in the gay rights debate and NOT on the side of those who claim to be his followers and proclaim their "moral values" by calling for laws against gay people's dignity and civil rights.

They wouldn't want that done to them. Indeed, they're often fussing that there's subtle persecution of Christians in America. They don't like that.

Following Jesus's instructions then, they should not want any kind of persecution of any people, including gay men and lesbians, because they wouldn't want themselves persecuted.
