All throughout my
website, I write about the
Mahayana Buddhist character of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. I think
this is great wisdom, a marvelous example of what religion should be
about and a special sort of manifestation of the teachings of Jesus
(without all the baggage of Christianity).
Avalokiteshvara is described as a handsome and attractive
androgynous young man who out of compassion renounces his own entry
into nirvana in order to remain behind and help all sentient beings
through the struggles of life. Indeed, he agrees to take on the karma
of all sentient beings, so he really is the One soul reincarnating as

as so kind
and generous and appealing precisely because he transcends gender. And

named Nate Berkus. It seems to me his appeal is precisely that of the

condolences to him through the Oprah Show.
What a wonderful step in the transformation of thought
about what it
means to be gay.
The real effort of the gay movement
to be to change how people perceive homosexuals. We should be seen as
saints, not sinners. Spirituality and virtue should be thought of as
gay traits, just like being good at arranging flowers or doing
