2004

San Antonio's Gay Halloween Ball is now regularly held at a nightclub called Sunset Station.

It's in the newly renovated historic old Southern Pacific Railway Depot in downtown San Antonio.

The Depot was used by the railroad up until quite recently. Now Amtrak has a much smaller depot at the other end of the block. And Sunset Station is a party venue.

Sunset Station is a beautiful old building with lots of brightly polished wood and a wonderful stairway from the ground floor to the mezzanine. Perfect for making an entrance!

In 2004 Kip and Toby dressed up as two ladies of the 1950s who have arrived, suitcases in the hand, looking for the train. They seemed bewildered that they can't find a ticket booth or a conductor and that there are so many strangely dressed people in the station. (As you can see in the photo, they must have needed a drink!)

We won First Place in the category "Best Couple."  (By the way, Kip made both costumes)

Kip Dollar & Toby Johnson Halloween 2004

We had a great time
Gay men can be so light-hearted. It's quite refreshing in a world that is too deadly serious.
(Men who can put on dresses are much less likely to go to war or despoil the Earth, I hypothesize!)

2005

In 2005, Toby and Kip make themselves up as "Leather Tom Tigers"
The bodies are real (no rubber prostheses), but those muscles are a creation of makeup and shading.
(In the first photo the camera does not capture the orange tiger colors our bodies were painted with. The second photo shows it better)

Here's our Austin friend Jay Vickers dressed as a
"Poodle in a Girl Skirt" in a costume Kip created.

2006

In 2006, we dressed as "Fashion Reverals" -- Kip (doing the costume he made for Jay last year) was a "Poodle in a Girl Skirt" (with the Peterbilt girl applique on a pink felt circle skirt); Toby was an "Alligator in a Boy Shirt" (doing a take-off on the Izod/Lacoste logo).

We won First Prize !

For election year, we did "Underdogs for Obama"

2011

We had a little party at our house for Halloween in 2011. Kip created neat Steampunk outfits for us both.
